Abstract :
[en] We present a quark-antiquark potential in which the connection between the strength and the range of the hyperfine interaction is consistent with the Fermi-Breit correction to the Coulomb potential. We compare our theoretical S-wave meson spectra with experiment and with those reported by Bhaduri et al. The limitations of the harmonic oscillator variational method to solve the corresponding Schrödinger equation are also discussed.
