[en] A modernized version of the bloomery process, instrumented for the measurement of temperature, was built and used for the reduction of iron ore. The reducing agent was solid carbon (charcoal) and carbon monoxide produced by the combustion of the charcoal. The composition and microstructure of the iron bloom obtained after the process were analyzed.
