[en] The optical properties of silver nanoparticles embedded in a poly (vinyl) alcohol matrix have been investigated using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic ellipsometry (600 and 6000 cm-1). An atomic force microscopy analysis showed that the particles were nearly spherical and their average size was ? 20 nm. The extinction coefficient spectrum of the annealed films reveals the major peaks associated with polyvinyl alcohol, as well as two additional peaks located at 1134 and 1036 cm-1, suggesting the presence of bonds between Ag and the polymer matrix
