Abstract :
[en] Objective: Empowerment refers to an individual's power to act. Within clubs, this concept represents an issue that influences the perceived Quality of Life (QoL) and social support of users. To our knowledge, no prior study has examined its links among French-speaking mental health users in Belgium. This study assesses the associations between user satisfaction in relation to the promotion of empowerment and its consequences on the perceived QoL and social support within a clubhouse. Method: Forty-four adults suffering from a mental disorder of the clubhouse entitled “B'eau B'art” were evaluated with the empowerment version of the B'eau B'art satisfaction questionnaire (QSBB-empowerment), the WHOQOL-bref measuring generic QoL and SSQ6 assessing perceived social support. Results: Users are generally satisfied with the Club except in the area of Social Relations and Participation in decisions. Positive correlations were obtained between the satisfaction, QoL and social support scores. Conclusion: Satisfaction linked to the empowerment advocated within a clubhouse like “B'eau B'art” has positive consequences on QoL and the perceived social support of users.
