[en] Four months before the European and regional elections, as the electoral campaign was picking up steam, Minister-President of the Brussels Region Daniel Ducarme decided on 11 February to resign from his mandates following the publication of his personal financial dossier in a newspaper. Ducarme was one of the heavyweights of the French-speaking Liberal Party (MR), which he chaired from 1989 to 1992 and from 1999 to 2003 when he decided to take over the minister-presidency of the Brussels Region from his Liberal colleague François-Xavier de Donnea in order to prepare for the 2004 regional elections.
